Amazon to New York: We’re out

AmazonNEW YORK — Amazon today announced it is canceling plans for its HQ2 headquarters in New York’s Long Island City.

In a blog post, the e-commerce giant laid the blame squarely at the feet of local politicians, saying, “While polls show that 70% of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City.”

The company said it had no plans to reopen a search for an additional headquarters and will instead proceed with its planned facilities in Northern Virginia and Nashville.
