Bel Furniture partners to bring holiday spirit to veterans

HOUSTON — Top 100 retailer Bel Furniture partnered with the USA Today Network and the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars to bring the Christmas spirit to 12 veterans and their families.

More than 150 nominations were received from loved ones, neighbors and friends from all over south Texas, and 12 veteran families were awarded with three rooms of furnishings from Bel Furniture and $500 gift cards for Christmas presented by LocaliQ, part of the USA Today Network, during the Twelve Days of Giveaways.

“Were still in shock. Our 8-year-old walked in gasped and said it’s all so beautiful. I keep staring at the bedroom. We’ve never had an actual bedroom set so it’s definitely my favorite part,” Kenneth Hill, one of the selected veterans, said. “I hope you all realize what a complete blessing you all are to the community especially to our family. We’ve worked really hard to make this house our home and for it to be all we’ve ever dreamed and although we still have a long way to go the blessing bestowed upon us today definitely put us a huge step forward on that dream.”

VFW posts in San Antonio, Del Rio, Corpus Christi, Victoria, Beaumont and Houston participate in selecting the veteran families. Each family received a new living room, dining room and bedroom set.

“No one does more for veterans than the VFW,” Texas VFW State Commander Lynn Toomer said in a news release. “We are honored to support this incredible partnership and spread Christmas joy to 12 veteran families in need. The Texas VFW is proud of our legacy of servant leadership and contributions in our communities for more than 100 years.”
