Eight Sleep introduces high tech bed

NEW YORK – Eight Sleep, an online mattress retailer, is introducing a new high tech bed called The Pod.

“Sleep fitness is a state of elevated well-being fueled by quality sleep,” said Matteo Franceschetti, Eight Sleep co-founder and CEO. “The Pod makes us the first company to tackle all of the issues that prevent a good night’s sleep.”

Franceschetti says The Pod combines dynamic temperature regulation, biometric tracking, smart home integrations and sleep coaching to deliver a total solution for enhanced rest and recovery.

The dynamic temperature regulation is powered by artificial intelligence that learns sleep habits and adjusts the temperature in the bed automatically. The company says it built this feature after tracking more than 43 million hours of sleep and gathering a spectrum of circadian rhythm research.

The AI-powered sleep coach analyzes more than a dozen physiological and environmental factors captured by the tracking devices and uses this to develop sleep tips. These tracking devices develop a sleep score which measures sleep duration, quality and consistency.

The bed also integrates with Wi-Fi enabled devices such as Alexa or Google Home.

“Eight Sleep’s goal of modifying the thermal environment using in-home data is a huge opportunity to advance sleep science,” said Dr. Craig Heller, a professor of biology at Stanford University and a member of the company’s advisory board.

The Pod is now available for reservation online with an initial deposit of $95 and the balance due upon delivery in April. Prices are $1,995 for a full, $2,295 for a queen and $2,495 for a king and a California king.
