Industry design veteran joins Gat Creek as company unveils two new collections

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Domestic furniture manufacturer Gat Creek has added industry veteran Rick Schroeder to its creative design team.

Schroeder is a past president and chairman of the American Society of Furniture Designers and winner of multiple ASFD/ISFD Pinnacle Awards, said Gat Creek. He brings decades of furniture design experience at large case goods companies.

“Rick is a leading expert at designing in solid wood,” said David Petersen, Gat Creek’s vice president of sales and marketing. “His work is very sophisticated in the use of simple, thoughtfully proportioned forms to create beautiful furniture.”

The veteran designer’s influence is already visible. The company’s first introductions of 2023 — two occasional living room collections — come straight from Schroeder’s drawing board.

The nine-piece Merrill Collection evokes architectural elements popularized in craftsman-style homes. Elana, a five-piece collection, borrows from mid-century lines. Both collections are made to order in the company’s offering of solid walnut, cherry, maple and ash, with an option of 64 stain and painted finishes.

“We’re celebrating simplicity and utilitarianism,” Schroeder said. “Think architectural front porch columns found in turn-of-the-century neighborhoods across America. The feeling of that is reflected in Merrill’s square, tapered legs.”

For Elana, Schroeder spoke to Gat Creek customers who appreciate designs that are not too detailed, but simple and accommodating, he said. “Elana captures that feeling through clean lines, saber style legs with a soft curved edge and chamfered corners.”

“As a domestic factory, we can offer a range of SKUs, sizes, materials and finishes that are not practically manufactured overseas,” said CEO Gat Caperton. “We build our solid wood furniture to order allowing our customer to express their style without compromise.”

The complete collections in all material and finish options are now up and viewable at the company’s website.
