Made in Poland: Meble Polska takes turn in industry’s international spotlight

POZNAN, Poland — More than 250 companies from 15 countries put their latest introductions as well as best-selling furniture on display during the 2023 Meble Polska Furniture Fair, Feb. 21-24. Exhibitors from Poland and several European and Asian countries welcomed buyers from more than 70 countries, and organizers report that both buyers and sellers were positive about 2023 business prospects.

“Despite the uncertain situation on global markets, the 41st edition of the largest furniture trade show in Central Eastern Europe Meble Polska was a great success,” said Robert Mecina, deputy director of Meble Polska. “We are pleased that the area of the furniture exhibition returned to its pre-pandemic size.”

The continued upward progress in attendance of both buyers and sellers is a strong positive marker for Meble Polska, according to Mecina.

“Professional visitors came again in large numbers,” he said. “This year’s edition confirmed that Meble Polska is the ideal sourcing fair for the whole world. Foreign companies increasingly take advantage of the sales potential, registering in increasing numbers as exhibitors. As a result, the fair’s offer becomes richer and more interesting.”

According to a report prepared by Tomasz Wiktorski of B+R Studio, Poland maintained the leading position in the value of exported furniture in Europe during 2022. In 2022, Germany was the largest recipient of Polish furniture, followed by Great Britain, the Czech Republic, France and the Netherlands. The United States was the largest non-European recipient of Polish furniture, representing 3.9% of exports.

In the annual report, Wiktorski notes that Poland experienced many of the same challenges as other international furniture manufacturers, noting that many companies have made significant investments to increase production capacity and increase their export market share.

“The Polish furniture industry ended the year (2022) with a record result in terms of marketed production, at $15.4 billion,” Wiktorski said. “At first glance, the growth is significant, but unfortunately, it is caused mainly by very high inflation, which will stay with us for a longer time.”

Wiktorski will accompany six Polish manufacturers to High Point Market in April, and representatives from each of the attending companies said they are ready to work with U.S. buyers, offering a variety of styles and designs, made in Poland quality and favorable lead times.

“These manufacturers have the systems in place to accommodate U.S. retailers,” Wiktorski said. “They offer products including upholstered furniture, RTA/flat-pack lines and solid wood case goods in a variety of sizes and finishes to reach numerous consumer segments.”
