Safety practices at Century Furniture facility wins national award

HICKORY, N.C. —Century Furniture, LLC has been awarded an OSHA “SHARP” status for safety practices and protocols at its manufacturing facility in North Carolina. Century Furniture is the only furniture manufacturer in North Carolina to receive this recognition.

“Our Century Plant 2 family worked diligently to receive and retain the NCDOL award for the next two years,” said Mike Webb, safety manager. “It’s amazing to have such a team of dedicated associates who not only care about their safety, but the safety and wellbeing of others.”

The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program award recognizes a business with an exceptionally safe workplace environment. Employers with fewer than 250 onsite employees and fewer than 500 corporate-wide employees who have used OSHA’s on-site consultation program services are eligible for the award.

“Receiving this award is exciting, but I can’t claim all the credit for achieving this,” said Joe MacTaggart, safety chairman for the plant. “After Century tasked the Safety Team and myself with this goal, my team and I worked with all the employees to implement and follow through with the necessary changes. I’m proud of all of my team and co-workers that we were able to reach our goal.”

“The SHARP designation is a huge achievement,” noted Tim Harmon, upholstery plant manager. “But at the end of the day, our main goal is the health and safety of our work family.”
