Want ‘instant comfort’? This motion manufacturer has other ideas for you

ÅLESUND CITY, Norway — H2 Seating, a producer of motion chairs, recliners and sofas based in Norway, made its debut at the High Point Market in October, the company’s first foray into the North American market. Unlike other manufacturers in the motion space, H2’s driving force is based on design technology that goes further than instant comfort, according to the company.

“We’re designing our products to provide not instant comfort, but lasting comfort,” said Nils Gunnar Hjellegjerde, founder, CEO and president.

He founded the company Hjellegjerde, which designs the products focused on ergonomically correct lumbar, arm, back and neck supports working in harmony, spending a considerable amount of time on creating a “performance chair, not a comfort chair,” according to Hjellegjerde.

Hjellegjerde said the company’s focus is on continually improving its product. “It never ends. If you stop innovating, others can catch up.”

The overall strategy seems to be working. “We contacted our leads and enjoyed good traffic this market. We have five seasoned sales agents in the U.S. and secured commitments from some U.S. majors. We’re very excited about the future,” said Karl Woll, president of H2 Seating North America.

Working out of a temporary 1,500-square-foot space at High Point, the company will double its space in the spring to a 3,000-square-foot showroom. “We will do an advertising blitz for the next market,” added Woll.

The company is adding capacity in its 125,000-square-foot facility in Thailand. H2 Seating will add more than 100,000 square feet and is projected to finish the project by February 2023. “We’re onboarding customers as we grow capacity,” said Hjellegjerde

In addition, H2 is adding motion sofas to their offerings as it helps with the flow of products, according to Woll. All products are ready to ship in mixed containers.

“Our customers have high expectations for our smooth, ergonomic support,” said Hjellegjerde, who added, “We make our seats like a car seat- you can drive over 100,000 miles in your car, and it won’t break. Our products are like that as well.”
